Adepts of Slack
Keys
We're looking for mutual benefit.
Here we summarize the band concept, what we can provide for a keyboardist, and what we'd like to see from a keyboardist.
Sample written keyboard parts are provided.
Concept
Discordian art-funk. Influenced by classic organ trio music, and newer things like Brecker Brothers and Soulive.
I'd like to get some visual arts involved. I aim to do a few well-planned shows a year, so everyone can continue
working on other projects. This will require weekly rehearsal until a set or two is learned, then can go on
everyone's back-burner between shows.
We provide
-
A non-glamorous but workable rehearsal space, with a simple dual manual keyboard rig.
-
Some reasonable facimile of musical coaching and leadership
-
4 competent, note-reading partners in crime.
-
A short but steadily growing list of original compositions.
-
A list of well-selected classic funky covers.
-
Written parts for originals and covers, when required for faster progress.
-
Oportunity to stretch out as an equal participant. Play a variety of
melody, rhythm chords, bass, and lead, both composed and improvised.
You provide
-
Ability to read rhythmic, chromatic music, or to learn the same by ear.
-
Proficiency with dual manual playing of Hammond, Rhodes, and piano, or curiosity enough
to experiment with this style.
-
Time to rehearse once weekly, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, for a two-hour stretch
somewhere between 7:00pm and 10:30pm, until sufficient material is learned for occasional
performances.
-
Some small amount of practice outside rehearsals.
-
Availability to perform live 3 times a year, at least initially. You can continue your
other projects.
Files
These parts were written for Hammond organ; therefore left and right hand parts overlap
at points. This presents no problem with dual keyboard manuals. Feel free to experiment and
mold to the resources at hand.
-
Wilson
is original music, through-composed, with little room for improvisation.
It requires some hand independence.
-
Dead Beef
is original music in head-leads-tail form, with improvisation inserted in the middle.
It also requires some hand independence.
-
Hagbard
is original music in head-leads-tail form, but is representative of our simpler
music.
-
Southwick
is a Maceo cover. Here we've chosen to notate the horn parts for organ.
